NOS Wells 100 led watch full new package.

Post27 Aug 2012, 11:21

Possibly one of the rarest led watches and probably the best example left. Brand new ,unused condition from a jewellers store room inventory stock. Even the gold on the vertical edges of the links and case back are just like it left the factory.Full immaculate paper work ,inc instruction manual, guarantee cards (blank) Wells 100 leaflet and swing tag. Price tag ,Texas instruments electronics tag,and inner and outer boxes. Outer box marked "Wells digital led solid state quartz model 100 B509 $250".
This is as significant a piece for Texas Instruments, as the P1 was for Pulsar. Its the worlds first led watch to feature a Texas Instruments module. From 1973 it was hot on the heels of the P1. Fantastic build, unique setting method ( no button recesses on the case ,setting is by a switch on the case back, no fiddling with magnets, and a beautiful oval time command button just like the Pulsar.Fully working ,showing hours min and seconds only. Superb large display ,easily the equal of the Pulsar / litronix display. :O`~

Awesome catch! Indeed Wells watches are quite rare and they look very cool, due to their Pulsar-esque feeling. We could say that this one is TI's Pulsar P2! I wonder if it has the light sensor just like the Pulsars. :-D

Holly,

Great watch. Tell me, do you like this watch better than the 0624-5009 you had?

Anyway,

They are both very different watches, but of equal importance historically.Seiko "saw the light " way back at the development stage of led technology. They knew then, it was of limited development and chose liquid crystal . Leds are used of course today, but more often in permanent display format which uses a lot of power and unsuitable for battery use. IMO if Seiko had continued to refine the 0624-5009 in terms of quality ,design and lcd technology , your looking at it in the watch pictured far right. The Ventura v-tec Delta W20S. Engrave "SEIKO" on this crystal and you have the 0624 ......... 2012 style. Seiko may have also added solar power and EPD to it as well! Oh yes and back to your question , both are very impressive and a must for collectors (dont think you will see either as genuine brand new packages like this anymore) but my fav is the 0624,simply because its more usable. By the way ,that yellow filter on the Seiko dulls the sharpness of the display although it looks great!

Oh yes, that yellow filter, that is what I was told anyway.
