Logo Refinishing

Post15 Oct 2012, 04:51

Hi.

Today I refinished a nice P2 and since most of the black was absent from the logo, I repainted the logo using India ink (see below). I wonder how long it will last? Is this what Pulsar originally used? Is this the best option or are there any other suggestions for better longevity?

Thanks,

-abe.

That's a very good result Abe, some people at the Oldpulsars forum have also used black nail polish to restore the logo. I've followed a different way instead, as I just used a black permanent marker to fill up the missing parts (suggested by Mick), and the restored logo isn't rubbing off at the moment. Since the logo is recessed into the case, it shouldn't be easy to remove the paint, unless it's done on purpose, but I don't know the longevity of india ink.
Well made work anyway! ;-)

That's it Phasar.

P.s I got an NOS Phasar LED in box for $10 at the flea market. Removed the original batteries, marked with a patent number no less, replaced them and BANG, it works.

Will post tomorrow.

I don't think it is baked because lacquer thinner removes it.

Having restored quite a few cases, not just pulsar, but others like Glycine, Longines with recessed writing they all come off with the thinner. Take a look at this airman restoration where I restored the rotating bezel:

www3.telus.net/public/geoffqf/glycinerepair.doc (cut and paste this, also download takes a while)

I prefer the sink enamel as it is very hard.

My guess is Acrylic Enamel, is my guess, and is true it rubs off with lacquer thinner or acetone.
May be they didn't do it much different than how we do it. apply and let dry before giving the satin finish
