Hamilton QEDs - Electroplated?

Hi.

I was under the impression that all early gold Hamilton QEDs, Pulsars and Omegas were 80 micron gold-filled or "rolled gold plated". I noticed in this auction (item #281050010791) for a Hamilton QED that the back distinctly reads: "14 KT Gold Electroplated".

So, what's up with that? Is this just a terminology difference or are there inferior QED models floating around?

The date code makes it quite an early example, does that offer any clues?
