thanks for the warm welcome guys!
i love that there are people out there who are keeping these lost gems alive and working!
i grew up in corvallis,OR and can remember my friends fathers wearing these hp01's as most of them worked for HP.
ive wanted one for so long and could not stop thinking about them and owning one!
well my wife made a life long dream come true for me my last birthday. You see, they are hard to find if at all. But one day i was in a pawn shop 4 blocks from my house and there it was! I felt this had to be fate.
A gold HP01 in the case for sale! I about fainted, since the last time i was ever in the presence of one i was about 10 years old!
The watch needed to be mine. Well the seller was asking about 1800.00 for it! So decided to let the dream go and just be happy knowing i got to see one and try it on. I stopped going to that pawn shop knowing that if i saw it again i would foolishly put it on a credit card just to have it!
I was so sad and felt stupid wanting something so unpractical.
Then 6 months later was my birthday. I came home and there was this large box on the pool table wrapped with a bow. It was about the size of a large moving box. I began to unwrap...then inside i found another box wrapped with a bow. i unwrapped...to find another box wrapped with a bow. after unwrapping 4 boxes i finally got to the one that was the watch. when i opened it i lost my breath and stood in misbelief! Was this for real?!?!
My eyes watered and I looked at my wife and said" you got me babe, You got me!"
I quickly took it into my room and disassembled it. Polished the gold to a high luster, re painted the black pinstripe, cleaned all the contacts and put in new batteries. It works flawlessly! I get compliments everywhere i go. I love it and feel so proud to wear it. after 32 years its finally on my arm, too cool!
Thanks for the advice and i for sure wil check out the web site to find a stylus. And yes i mean the one that clips into the band.
thanks, and till next time...
cheers
