LOL, well, I purchased the S771. For budget reasons and the readability of all the display modes.
What I'm saying is that the style and quality may not be what some people are looking for with watches that have the S771 module in them. A lot of people seem to enjoy their S770 series, which have Sapphire anti-reflective coatings and higher quality links and machining, as well as a different style which appeals to some. But the complaint is that the two modes on the S770 isn't nearly as easily read compared to the S771's, so if I was Seiko and had to make a judgement call, I'd have the memory chip updated in the S770 module so that the two time modes with large font digits displayed the time like the S771's, while also being in a higher quality watch model, it would make both modes more useful for the customer.
In my opinion, just good customer service practice.
Also, just a heads up for all you Seiko EPD users. I found my watch was ghosting digits more than usual recently, but a simple reset of the module and setting your time back up quickly cleared any display problems and ghosting issues I was having. Most people probably wouldn't notice the ghosting anyways, but it bugged me. I also noticed my display wouldn't turn on so easily when exposed to 500lux lighting conditions, the reset also fixed this issue as well.
