A few components under loupe

Post30 Mar 2017, 11:49

During my stay in Geneve had found a few pieces of history.

Here presentation box from ESA(ETA) with steps of making cirquit block. All components are real and glued to the paper.

Interesting paper from Marvin dated 23.6.72 Defected cirquit blocks with description

Those oscillator boards are from the Omega Electroquartz f8192Hz (Beta21).
I'm pretty sure Hanno is now reproducing these boards.

Had found a few calibers in lost workshops of Geneve

Super slim caliber ESA 939.262. had to think twice to start it.

My favourite modules of Mondaine company. The right one equipped with solar battery.

ESA 9315 caliber and set of dials to change. You won't be bored of your watch.

One of the first ladies quartz calibers from ESA. Working.

Gratis Gruen Teletime. Was successful to start it, but the mechanism of setting is lost. No caseback. Have ideas how to restore this watch.
The watch has two bulbs from both sides of the dial. You can see one on the second pic.

Interesting pics (especially the Omega Constellation module with the Litronix P3 display). And, not trying to be too much of a fussbudget, but the jeweler's magnifier is called a "loupe"...hardly ever see that spelled right...

Those circuit boards look almost like they were printed on something that looks very much like 35mm film stock, sprocket holes and all. Am I right?

Making cirquit block:
Put on chip, weld it by ultrasonic welder to board with tiny aluminium wires, put on frame and fill in compound to prevent chips from oxidation.

Then prepare components to assemble in module :)

It seems that it is not a digital watch, but a quartz watch with analog display (hands), Mondaine Generator Watch ref. no. A681.30130.01SBBR, labeled also SBB CFF FFS - meaning Swiss Federal Railways (German: Schweizerische Bundesbahnen (SBB), French: Chemins de fer fédéraux suisses (CFF), Italian: Ferrovie federali svizzere (FFS)
One can see a picture of this rare watch on Amazon - labeled as "currently unavailable " :(
https://www.amazon.co.uk/2-2KVA-GENERAT ... B0114PBLNE
And a history of modern Swiss/Mondaine Railways/SBB watches - inpired after Hans Hilfiker SBB (Swiss Railways) clock of 1944, at History section of the following URL:
https://www.sbb.ch/en/station-services/ ... daine.html

Thank you, yes, I know that. A few pics not digitals, but analog quartz watches. Sorry, didn't want to separate macros of guts of different types of quartz watches.
As to railways. About 25 years ago I had to work as a loco driver, so till now like railways, high speed trains like TGV etc.

Hi Mr. Babanin,
I was positively sure that You already knew everything about the Mondaine Generator watch, since I always have read Your excellent posts and I sincerely admire Your level of knowledge and insights about the vintage watches.
Thanks again for all Your outstanding posts - I've learned a lot from them! :Prost:
Thus, my above post was meant to inform some other forums members that may be interested in this rare "Generator" Mondaine watch, also related to Swiss Railways.
And - speaking about train/railways related watches - I am positively sure that You know, but I will post it for other forum's members - that the famous industrial French Designer of the TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) - Roger Tallon - have designed earlier in his outstanding career (1974/1975), also the famous LIP Mach 2000 series of watches. :-D

Yesterday I inspected prototype board of first russian led watch, of the beginning of 1974. I was surprised with funny pic on the edge of chip. There are many samples of this pics known, but I desided to share with you. Burattino (russian Pinokkio) with gold key in his hand.
