Seiko 0634 LCD Bleed

Post16 Oct 2017, 21:50

Gents,

the LCD has started to bleed on my Seiko 0634-5019. I understand this can't be fixed except through fitting a replacement LCD. Does anyone know if the LCD from other cases of 0634 will fit?

Thanks

I have had some success in prolonging the life in my 06 series watches by taking the lcd panel out and gently squeezing the bleed back to its breaking point. this doesnt always work but I've had a pretty good results(a 0674 that still good after 4 years). Once pushed back I also take a little pressure from the retaining spring by straightening a little. Obviously any of this only works if you're happy working inside the watch.

Had the watch apart this evening, not having much luck removing the bleed - made it worse if anything!

Fi stay, remove it completely then massage.

Secondly in this case understanding the construction would help. The numeric, alpha and symbols are etched on both sides of the LCD panel. Think of two sheets of glass glued together with the etching done not the inside plane of the two sheets. The glass delaminates and the liquid crystal (actually solid crystal bits that act as a liquid) leak out of the etched symbol channels.

In your case the bleed has migrated from the etching channels into the interstices of the two sheets of glass. I would massage in all directions while continuing to press the sheets together. The idea is to fill the channels again and reset the two sheets together.

Best regards

Thanks Geoff, I'm willing to give anything a go at this point as it's a significant bleed. I think I'll need to remove the retaining clip and panel first to do it properly.
