Well, somebody wanted it bad enough to bump their own bid at the end. At US$5350, between the value of the gold, and the diamonds, this one isn't safe from the melting pot, especially if gold keeps going up. This could possibly have been restored to some reasonably close approximation to originality, but it would have cost, as they say, a packet (probably a couple thousand dollars).
Other than the tasteless alterations, the only point of interest here is that this was a "new" P1...number 206 has never appeared on the market before, so I assume this was a "find" in a safe-deposit box as part of an estate...the first addition to the P1 roster in well over a year, (and no, I wasn't the buyer!).
