Advice to ebay bidders

I know this isn't strictly, well ok not in any way, about watches, but this guy has some good points on safe biding for anyone who is tempted by an expensive watch that looks too good to be true.

I'am sure everyone's seen something on eBay at one time or another and the thought "That's Too Good To Be True" stuck in their head.

I bought a camera lens worth ?400 from a guy a while back with single digit feedback for ?200 I had a very nervous five day wait till it arrived, it turned out 100% perfect thankfully but I've never put myself through that again.

My buying decisions are ALL based on the feedback and the response I get from sellers answers to my questions, its amazing what you can deduce from asking the right questions.

From the tone of the author's aadvice/rant I only hope he hasn't seen "Falling Down" with Michael Douglas.*

Klippie, you've summed it up perfectly, although I might add bid what you are willing to lose and you'll never be too disappointed. Anyone else got any hints on this subject matter ? Buying fron "names" is a good one eg Majestyk, usick and others...who mainly are on this forum anyway :? .

* I don't want to pull a gun in McDonalds and complain about the picture being so much nicer than the reality but I can understand that one. Huh there's no barf smilie :D

Good point, I like the part when he re-intoduces the prices from the 60s with a bit force.

:D

Well for ebay germany (Im located in Germany) I never have many doubts, even if the seller has bad/low feedback I can threaten to come personally fetching the goods - for buying from other countries I'm also a bit carefull. Best method if I'm not content with my purchase (i.e. something broken or so) is getting the contact data from ebay (YOu get the full address) and then taking his phone numer from the phone book and just calling him. Most people are so shocked you got their phone number - I even got some items for free after that.

Oh and I never directly claim I'm a policeman (that would be against the law), I just put it like "Did you imagine a police officer could have bought that item?".
