Being a noob to Pulsars, I feel free to ask noob questions like:
1. how do I know if this is the 901 or 902 model from the exterior?
(edit) I see that the memory function buttons top-down are in
different order:
901: A,R,S and =,E,%,C
902: A,S,R and C,E,%,=
So I have a SSteel 901 in very good condition
2. how do you operate the calculator?
(edit) Saw this picture

So the "0" button makes the watch toggle between calc and time.
3. what can I use if I dont have the original pen pointer?
(edit) used a pen point, but I think ill find something hard plastic like
one I use on my PDA or kids Gameboy
I guess my remaining questions are:
4. What batteries does it use, and how does one change the batteries, watchman's screwdriver?
5. how do I set the time and date?
(edit) found it

Finally, to address this post's originating question, regarding the time out
feature when in Calc mode...
- my 901 also times out the display in Calc mode for about 5 or so seconds.
- The calc mode display was very dim, and the clock mode brighter.
If I had to guess, its to distribute the power amongst more LED segments.
Is this how it should behave?
Or is it an indication of dying or wrong batteries?
Regardless, this is a watch Ive been wanting for a long long time.
Its so nerdy. And I happen to be an engineer. ;)
