Pulsar repair

Post30 Oct 2008, 20:53

I have a Gold Pulsar P3 3130? which hasn't worked for 20 years. I have replaced the batteries (357 with spacers), but all I can get is part of a single digit or a full one illuminated.

I would be grateful if anyone could let me know if it sounds viable to repair, whether there is something else I can try myself or recommend where I could get it repaired.

Many thanks

Your watch shows the classic symptons of quartz crystal/oscillator failure. Timing crystal replacement is a very straightforward repair. If that fails to revive the module, it might still respond to a self-contained oscillator implant. If that fails, the module is considered DOA [beyond repair]. On the model type; check the caseback markings. 14K Goldfilled = 3120. 14K Gold = 3130. 18K Gold = 3140 = BIG $$$! Solid gold models also have bracelet links that are gold on the inside surface [instead of stainless], gold case rings, and gold clasp hinges. Hinges will also be hallmarked 14K Gold or 18K Gold [some with 0.585 or .750 stamp].

I'll add a small correction /clarification to Bruce's post: both P3 and P2 models of soild gold casing came in variations which had a stainless back and ring. In the P3 line they were the 3396(leather strap) and the 3115(solid gold case, stainless back & ring, gold-filled braclet). In the P2 line there were the 2975(solid 14, gold-filled braclet) and the 3286(solid 14k, leather).
