Bought Pulsar TC 5503 - SHOCKED!!! - why is it so small?

Post05 Feb 2009, 16:43

Hey guys, been on the forum a while deciding what Pulsar to buy. Got my first piece today, a stunning 5503 gents touch command with all boxes, book, wrench etc. :-D

However, having not seen one in real life before, Im shocked at how small this watch is! Kind of looks a bit feminine, although clearly its a gents watch judging by the wristband size (7.5").

Would appreciate any feedback at all from anyone on this. Did you find the same? I believe the 5408 is also this tiny? :-|

Maybe someone would be kind enough to give me the exact measurments of one of these so I can compare... really looks like my one has shrunk in the wash! LOL

Many thanks for reading! :-(

Re: 1st time buyer Pulsar 5503 - HELP - should it be so smal

Yes, it really is that small. :-D I bought a 14k GF Men's Dress (5408-2) a couple of months ago, and didn't realize how small it was. I've gotten used to the size now, and I changed the mesh band with a black leather one. Actually, I'm wearing it right now. It's by far probably the lightest watch in terms of weight, but I really like the case design.

Try to think of it as sleek, futuristic and inobtrusive. It's way too big to be a lady's, unless she is really big. Some of the watches worn by James Bond over the years were smaller. and it does have a great display. 8-)

The dimensions of all the Dress models are essentially the same. It's probably the best example of the trend of Time Computer watches toward smaller, more elegantly-shaped designs. BTW, a small percentage [10-20] of the Special Edition models also has the Auto-Command [flick-of-wrist] function...it's the only watch outside of the P4s or Calculators to have that feature. The Green LED Dress watch is one of my favorite Pulsars.

Thanks guys, really pleased to see some responses coming in so quick! I agree, its a stunning piece of kit, and really is immaculate, looks straight out of the shop 32 years back! Its just sooooo tiny that Im not sure if I can get used to it! Thinking of perhaps getting a Sport 3502 instead if anyone can confirm that its a fair bit larger and masculine looking, without sinking a battleship!

Lol, I suppose youre right retroleds, shed have to be a BIG lady! I guess a fair comment would be to say it looks more "unisex" somewhere along the lines of a Rolex Yachtmaster compared to a Submariner!

P.S. Are the ladies Pulsars actually much smaller than the Gent's Dress ones then?

I wouldn't say the Sport is much bigger than the Dress. I have the Sport as well. It's got a different look to it compared to the Dress. It's funny, I'll wear my Dress as a "daily", but wear the Sport when "dressing" up. I'll see if I can take a pic of both of them together.

Thanks Sully, that would actually be quite interesting... Ive never seen the Sport and the Dress side by side. I always assumed the Sport was a lot bigger and chunkier as the name would kind of suggest. Yes, Sport for dressing and Dress for daily is kind of inverted to the norm I guess! Lol! ;-) Suppose it just depends which is your favorite baby!

Here are two pics of the Dress and the Sport side by side. If I had a better camera the shots would be clearer.

Hey Sully! Many thanks for that. Both are lovely watches, the strap actually looks pretty cool on the Dress I must say!

Amazingly enough the cases look almost identical in dimensions, the crystal on the Dress even looks a tad larger. Id assumed the Sport was a fair bit lager after seeing my 5503 TC!

What are the case width and height dimensions of the two by the way? I shall compare with mine and just make sure I can believe this!? My 5503 is just 33mm wide by 35mm high (that is from one edge of the case to the other)

Thanks again for taking the trouble! :-)
