Unusual Pulsar Box

Post12 Feb 2009, 09:11

Has anyone noticed this Pulsar box on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Pulsar-LED-Class ... dZViewItem

I don't think I've ever seen this Pulsar box before.
Is it particularly rare ?

Rgds,
Andrew.

This is a modern box cooked up by the Evil One [sorry, I will never do him the favor of putting his name in print]. It was intended to house the "Inverta" LED [thankfully, this overpriced and underdesigned abortion never made it production]. Here is a situation where the box outclasses the watch it was intended to house. Most Classics left Lancaster in the standard brown clamshell, or the later style blue box. BTW, the Classic was never originally issued with the 406 [24-hour] module; it was strictly limited to the Executive model...probably no more than 5000 or so were produced.

How come that barbie9 has an "Inverta" box? Is there some (business) relationship between barbie9 and "DK"?

I assume financial pressures have forced him to sell off some of the boxes that were produced in anticipation of the sales of the Inverta. I don't know how many were produced [but there were clearly versions for stainless and GF models]. My guess is, that he will sell them to anyone who wants one [myself excluded, of course]. They're still a fair step up from the hideous containers most orphan Pulsars wind up in...

So if he sells the boxes this looks like the definite end of the Inverta project - kind of sad because of the wasted personal effort and money. Personally I was not a big Inverta fan (the design is not my cup of tea) but I appreciate the idea (and idealism) behind the project.

Actually, that is the first run box - Dennis had the box redesigned but he had already ordered X number of those. A few other people have some of those from him and are selling Pulsar's off in them. I'm thinking it is not a bad ploy - keeps the Time Computer name out there, gets him back a little of his investment. I doubt it means the Inverta project is dead - possibly set back, who knows, alot of people and businesses are "set back" a little right now. I don't think of Dennis as "the Evil One" - contentious and opinionated, but brutally honest and steadfast. He'll alway have a place in LED watch collecting history - he was collecting Pulsars before most people even thought of them as collectibles and his site is still the "go-to" place for Pulsar information.

* Dennis and I aren't on speaking terms, but that takes nothing away from his accomplishments or mine. Or Bruce's. Or the rest of you all. 8-)

Sorry, Steve; I just call them as I see them. Some years back , I did him an incredible favor by selling him some extremely rare watches [which, for all his collecting experience, were missing in his collection], for stupid cheap money; he repaid me with derision and excoriation [for two years, he had a little blurb on his website warning people away from me, calling me an incompetant thief; if it had been your name there, for all the world to view, you would have been less likely to see the humor in it]. Had I known him then like I know him now, I would never have sold him anything; he doesn't merit owning the things he got from me. Seriously, if you knew the whole story, you would be admiring my restraint...rather than obliquely condemning my disdain for him... As for the whole Inverta project, it is now over two years and counting, and one has yet to be delivered...this stillborn thing is now buried in Potter's field, where, if collectors' response was any gauge, it rightfully belongs [ill-considered is still ill-considered, no matter who you are; the Universe gives no quarter for poor judgement]. For $500, or less, you, or I, or any of a number of other sources, could put a very nice piece of original Time Computer history on your wrist; such a price for a modern LED is simply ludicrous. Anyway, I think this only the second time I have seen one of these boxes on ebay; O.K., I guess, as long as everyone knows they are not original Time Computer products.

Yes but Barbie9 doesn't put any warning about the box and that is very far from honest.

I want one of the boxes regardless! - it is still a piece of digital watch horological history. :-D

As far as I know, you just have to email him and ask to buy one; I doubt there's any shortage of inventory. In any event, it is clear he is willing to sell them. If I had loose watches that needed the protection of a box, these would be very acceptable.
