MY FIRST TWO PULSARS (Classic P4, & BIG TIME P4)

Post01 Aug 2009, 08:35

My first 2 Pulsars, and BOTH BROKEN :-(
I first purchased the Gold Classic (with the 403 module), it only lights up the top segments, & it will display the day for the DOW/Date function.
Then I bought the BIG TIME w/401 module, & of course find out it is DOA.
I really would like a SS P2 in decent to great shape with a good original working module, and at least one working 401, 402, or 403 module. Its too bad these don't work...I really like the BIG TIME :-D
Enjoy the pics of my broken beauties :O`~

The watches look in superb condition :-D

Shame that they are not working :-(

I too like the 'Bigtime' and I hear it is relatively rare to find with the crystal intact, due to its large size and raised edges, would be great if you could repair\replace the module - when you say they are dead, how dead is dead, tested extensively dead or tried with batteries and dead?

If they are beyond repair, I have seen some modules offered for sale on eBay from time to time - in fact I managed to get a replacement module for mine last year, if I remember correctly the seller was from Turkey.....so it's a fair bet sooner or later there will be other modules or working module in tatty cases cropping up on eBay.

Great pictures, maybe some kind member will be able to offer you a replacement module.

Good luck !!

I checked with retroleds last Sunday, and talked to him about repair of the Gold Classic, and from his impression of the symptoms... It looks grim for chances of repair (possibly Main IC issue?). The case, & RED Crystal is in great shape though.
The BIG TIME looks as if it had a bad battery leak. There is signs of where there was corrosion (and still is under close inspection with a loupe), Also there seems to be the top layer of the Trimmer missing??? When I opened it up there was 2 tiny square like pieces floating around inside the case (Possibly transistors???)...I am thinking someone tried cleaning up the damage done by battery leakage, and helped in breaking a few small pieces off the module in the process. Of course none of which was mentioned in auction listing. The back ring is slightly damaged where it appears that whom-ever tried opening the back thought it was a pop-off back??? (still works right though, just has a rough spin to it). The outer case, and RED Crystal look GREAT except for a tiny scratch above the Pulsar logo (No chips on outer rim).
I think both modules are beyond repair :-(

Would Hanno be able to offer a solution for the classic?

http://www.dwf.nu/viewtopic.php?t=3279&highlight=sasm

I sent him my P2 to have the module converted, unfortunately there was a segment out on the display and he was unable to fully restore the display following the SASM conversion - however he only charged me the cost of the return postage so I ended up with a very cheap albeit part working watch.

I found him very fair, prompt and polite to deal with and if the modules is otherwise only good for the bin why not?

I've thought about it, but when I contacted him by email about a month ago...The replacement module was still under construction because of some bugs that needed worked out. I should contact him again since I actually have two to work with now (Before when I asked him, I was considering purchasing a case without a module, & was inquiring if he had modules available for purchase yet). It still shows on his website that they will be available in Summer '09

I don't know yet if I would want to send in the broken modules...Maybe he would take 2 broken modules for 1 working
I have spent my limit (for awhile anyways) before I can invest anymore cash on a Pulsar.

Someday, I will be wearing a working Pulsar, but as my hopes have fallen on these two I have...I'm in no rush anymore.
Thanks for helping with my Pulsar problems, and I will try to contact him again soon when I do have some cash to work with.
Thanks,
B

I feel your pain BERNUS. I think most of us have bought a great looking watch hoping it would be a runner just to find out no only does it not work - but may be beyond repair. And I too recent sent a module to Hanno for repair.
I got a Date II that looked pretty good and at a great price... only to find out only half the segments lit up.
Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it can be 100% restored. ~:(

It's a gamble sometimes when you buy these old gems, and sometimes you win sometimes you lose. But as long as you are still in the race (finances permitting) you'll reach your goal.
Then you'll have 2 good looking, fully functional Pulsars to enjoy. :-D
