How do you get tarnish off a GF dress??

Post13 Aug 2009, 21:38

That mens dress I got a couple of weeks ago has some tarnish on the ends where the lizard strap is attached. Anyone else ever run into this problem?? And if you did how did you get it off? I don't have my buffing wheel anymore. It seems like some of the dye leeched off the black lizard strap. The watch is in really nice shape except for this. The module is very bright and keeping excellent time. I also have a NOS GF bracelet for it! The sapphire time screen doesn't even have a scratch in it either,or any nicks. Ed can you help out on this or Bruce??

One of the best metal polishes I have ever found is called SimiChrome. It will bring stainless or gold to an absolute optical surface if desired, and remove any trace of tarnish.. Can be found in any automotive supply house [as the name suggests, it works great on chrome, too]. Looks like pink toothpaste, and a little goes a long way.

"Silvo"(not Brasso, same company though) is found pretty much everywhere and works quite well also.

Just thought of another possibility. If the existing surface finish is good, you might try TarnX...it uses reducing chemistry to remove tarnish [which is a thin layer of oxide] without removing a single atom of metal from the surface...totally non-abrasive [maybe important on that thin goldfill]. A bit harder to find, but worth considering.

That looks like the right stuff. I'm going to post a couple of pics of the watch. See how the end of the case (closest to the strap) is darker??!!

Bruce, I got some tarn-x at my local Ace hardware store. $6.50 It took most of it off. I'll polish it up later. I just dipped a q-tip in and rubbed it off. Thanks, Greg R.

I used the Tarn-x again this morning. Check out these pics. I put the NOS GF bracelet on it.
