Tiffany Pulsar

Post27 May 2007, 20:43

After buying some new tiffany timescreens from Simon i thought it was a shame not to buy the watch to match (reverse logic i know  ) As a Pulsar virgin (i don't possess a single model) is there anyway of finding out if my proposed purchase was originally retailed via tiffany ie a serial number check, internal stamp etc etc , as i would prefer to retrofit an original

None of the Tiffany records are known to exist, so the emergence of all these new Tiffany crystals will inevitably create some confusion. Doubtless, many will be used to replace damaged crystals originally installed, but the glue will not be original, and it will thus be possible to distinguish these as watches "upgraded" to Tiffany. Ultimately, it will be necessary to confirm that the installation is original, as those will be the only watches worthy of carrying a Tiffany value premium.

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone stock-piled some of those crystals that hit the market back in '07?
I just purchased this one off the "well know internet auction site", and I didn't realize how bad the crystal was based off sellers crappy pictures in auction listing. The seller sold this as "Not Working", "Good for Collector"...They did not mention that they crammed 2x 3v LITHIUM RENATA CR1632 Batteries into the module, and they left them crammed in for me to find!!!
What would 6volts of juice running through an old module damage first?,
and if the module was not working at all (already dead)...What damage could 6volts do to it?
They had made a little extra room for cramming the batteries into module by scraping away some of the plastic of carrier, and they must of broke the Bow-Tie connector off while most likely cleaning up after the battery leakage of the original batteries.
Not a bad score for the price I paid, but I would like to refurbish it if possible. It has the a low 5 digit serial, original "U" Magnet, and old style compartment.
Thanks for any help ;-)

Were the two batteries actually connected in series?
If they are in parallel, it's only 3 Volts, no worries.

Yes, but I don't know if they were making contact despite the effort made due to the thinness of the batteries I found installed, and the fact that the Bow-Tie connector was floating around in case when I opened it up.
The display looks good from appearance...no milky, or burnt out looking segments. I just didn't know if the module would still be good if 6volts ran through it properly, and if it did...What damage would be done first?
Either way, with proper batteries installed, It does not light up at all.
I have not tried to test it any further because this is the only module I have that looks like this one (Single trimmer, first released style module).

The external driver transistors, QC, etc. will survive it, very likely the LEDs too.
But it's impossible to say which of the thousands of transistors on the chip would die first.
However those old chips used rather large structures, so maybe 6V wouldn't even damage it. I know (in the meaning of 'been there, done that' - involuntarily) that modern chips rated for 3.3V (4V abs. max) will NOT survive 6V on their supply rails....
