Benrus battery stack

Post15 Feb 2010, 14:50

Hi all

Seems to be a flurry of activity here. Just got in a Benrus identical to this one..

http://www.ledwatches.net/photo-pages/benrus.htm

The batteries stack on top of each other. I'm guessing they will be the smaller 386 size but does anyone know which way up they might go - my guess would be +ve to the watch back.

I'm not expecting it to work as it was bought 'as is' but you never know..

Cheers

James - glad to see you getting into the watches...obviously an addict-to-be.

Your batteries: #386, both go negative down, positive up. The battery conversion chart has good tips(I think) for determining correct polarity and specifically mentions the early Benrus you have at hand. http://www.dwf.nu/Batterychart.htm

Don't be surorised if it works, those have proven to be a very sturdy module. Made by Texas Instruments for Benrus. It's direct predessesor is the module shown here (erroneously classified as a Texas Instruments, since determined that Wells was a line of Benrus and TI only made the module). http://www.ledwatches.net/photo-pages/texas-instruments18.htm

Thanks guys- I had some 386s so I tried them straight away and indeed it lights up - currently on 'soak'. My leds are on a slightly jaunty angle however - tilting up towards the left. Not sure if this can be adjusted as the module looked to be soldered into the case !

Cheers

There is a brass retaining ring that is dropped in after the module is dropped in. You can usually take a small screwdriver and start to tease it out a bit where one of the buttons pass through on their way toward the contacts. Turn module slightly, push ring back down, resume having fun! 8-)
