Strange Module

Post08 Apr 2010, 13:35

Can anyone shed any light on this module:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Original-Pulsar- ... 4aa015045d

It doesn't seem to have a QC ? Yet it's listed a fully functional. The little thing in the QC space could be an oscillator package, but it looks very small.

Rgds,
Andrew.

The QC is visible on the 2nd photo (the gold coloured cylinder).
Definitely not "100% original" as the seller claims...

I'm pretty sure that's the trimmer capacitor.......

If you look halfway down this page, you'll see a better picture of the fine trimmer on the back:

He is also selling a Omega with a SASM 13 module, is the module also a SASM conversion?

Don't the SASM conversions usually have "Spares and Strikes" molded into the plastic above the display?

This is an early P2 module [the circuit board size, component layout, and "pinwheel"-style battery contacts tell that story...this is the electronic package that virtually all P1s contain], original except for the replacement component. It could either be a very small quartz crystal, or an oscillator package [although it IS quite a bit smaller than the ones I am used to seeing]. Either way, not quite 100% original, in the strict sense, but it's still better than having a dead P2 laying around. Actually, he says "Original module", and 100% working", so, again, the description is technically accurate. Anyway, I doubt there's any malicious intent here...just depends on how many hairs you're willing to split...

After looking more closely, I believe this must be an oscillator chip……a very small one! One of the normal connection points for the QC has no connection (near where the plastic carrier has been melted by a soldering iron).

To answer your question morelite, I have 2 SASM modules and neither say "Spares and Strikes" ("or Strikes and Spares" for that matter  ) anywhere on the module.
