Need some help with a Quantum HH watch

Post05 Feb 2011, 13:39

Hi Guys,

Bought a Quantum HH watch dirt cheap off of ebay... of course it doesnt work properly.... the digits seem to scroll one by one across the screen!! I think the watch has a 34mm Hughes Dot Matrix module in it just like my infamous Polara!!

Anyway I say i think it has a Hughes module in it as I just cant get it apart!!! I was wondering if anyone knew how i get this watch apart as I want to send just the module off for repair and then i can put the case in my ultrasonic cleaner :-)

Any help greatly appreciated as always!!

Cheers,

Mark

It is a pressed on back - firmly pressed on, only to be removed for servicing.

First remove the band, you will have an easier time looking all the way around the case for the slightest crack/opening and you won't stupidly apply torque to the band whilst trying to find leverage against the back. !@@! You may find the back overhangs the bezel at one end or the other, which make prying the back off an easy job. Otherwise... you may have to take something really thin like a straight, single-edge razor(window scraper) - push it straight into the crack(don't twist or pry), pull out and move around the case, repeat. Once you do it in 5-10 spots, you will find that it has leveraged the back enough that you can use a regular sized case knife.

Doesn't that nicely marked line near the battery cover point to a way in ?

Good luck

Generally not(unfortunately) - more often lines on the back tell one where to line up the battery contact on the back to the module before pressing on. Either way, be sure to not press the back on with the caps in -some screw caps don't have a terminating lip, so they can easily be crushed through the threads or the threads damaged if the case back gives any resistance to popping back on. Obviously :-) you don't want to press on the back with batteries AND the screw caps in either. Way too much pressure on the module, unless you don't mind risking cracking it.
