Pulsar Dress TC on ebay

Post02 Feb 2011, 14:48

I found this one on eBay. This is the only one I have spotted since I bought mine in March 2008...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0700642998

I already got one, but I thought it could be of interest to someone...

Nice rare watch, what I like is the honest description of the item and it's condition.........if only other sellers where this good ;-)

What causes the discoloration marks on the band, is there anything available to remove them?

Amazing... It sold for only GBP113 (US$183)... That's the same price I gave for a non-worker in March 2008.... Did I pay too much for mine, or did this one go low...?

LLoyd, that really is sad, very low. Maybe a bit more polish to the case -I realize you may have feared going at it, since the plating only goes so deep. The Saphire crystals - they are a hard sell to a more casual collector, since the logos look weak between the layers. The same watch with a standard crystal might actually have more curb appeal. Who knows. :-?

I have two of those cases and all the necessary parts, modules,etc.....my motivation to assemble them is at an all time low.

This is historically about the lowest price month for ebay sales - winter bills + tax time + economy in the dumps. May is best(first proposed by Bruce W., I concur) - sunshine, warm weather, tax man a bad dream in the rear view mirror.

There was a TC Dress with DOW about 2 or 3 months ago that went for over $200 ($230?, $280, I can't remember), so I think this one just happened to squeak by. A closer photo may have made it easier to distinguish from a regular dress model.

The gold dress models fetch the least among all of the Pulsar men's models, which is too bad since they are really nice and extremely wearable watches (comfortable, easy to read). I think the sapphire crystal is far superior to the mineral glass by a wide margin. It's shinier, incredibly resistant to scratching and you don't have to worry about the logo wearing off.

Perhaps they are out of sync with the fashions today where huge, chunky ugly "manly man" type monstrosities are "in".

I think the thing that people really miss on those watches, from a longevity & value standpoint, is the module. As long as you don't lift the plastic off the module(exposed wire-bonds everywhere), that sucker is really bullet proof in my opinion. I get approximately 250 repairs a year, I have never been asked to fix one of those modules, other than a few Mike Barbaro had that had been manhandled over the years. It dawns on me - the problem is the case looks just like a Men's Dress to the casual purchaser. Maybe even to the experienced collector?! Gary Ratcliff was selling off the last of those modules for $150 each - damn shame that watch didn't fetch more, the difference was like what you get for a empty, f'd Dress case on the 'bay.

I bought a few of those modules off Gary Ratcliff...look forward to putting them to good use some day. Really beautiful display and setting function, IMO.

Better hunting tomorrow gents' ;*

I noticed that the 5503 TC Dress has just appeared in the Digital Watch Library:

Perhaps Alex (ummedia) was the lucky bidder?

No I wasn't the lucky bidder, I just asked Mr Frequency if I could use his images and information on the site.

I just remembered my other dress GF TC has a P-1 serial number. It came with a Pulsar sport, ( both i believe where early models that came from a Pulsar executive ).
The sport has a plastic screen with no serial number, and a different module. Does anyone else have a Dress TC with a P-1 serial number. Mine reads 7540085.

I've got 752093, 753151, 752065

Normally I don't pay attention to serial numbers....one of those areas where my eye glaze over. Sort of like history and astronomy: my late father bored me to death with them. Both are good for inducing sleep in me. ;*

Before you leave us in search of sun and fresh air, one more little question on Pulsar minutia (but no serial numbers, I promise):

It appears that the TC Dress above has silver colored buttons rather than gold plated buttons. That seems unusual - I thought that they usually matched the case. Does your 3502 Sport really have a plastic time screen instead of mineral glass? That's also odd.

Were these watches perhaps pre-production / prototype pieces??

abe,

I do believe these where some kind of prototype Pulsar's, BTW I've never spotted the sliver TC buttons, you have a good eye. They came from a Pulsar employee of some sort or exec, ( Sorry i forgot his name ), along with paperwork and proof photo booklets. Yes the sport has a plastic time screen and looking at the back of the module it appears to be diverent, sorry different to the regular module

Did you really not notice those SS buttons Lloyd ? To me, it instantly leaps out at you thet they're different to the norm. Also, what are "proof photo booklets" and what's diverant about the Sport module ? Any chance of a photo ?

Andrew.

I really didn't pick up on the ss tc buttons. The photo booklet is like a regular Pulsar booklet, but it has actual photo's stuck on the card, i guess to get approval before it went to print. I'll get some pictures along with the sport module.
