Pulsar 406 Module

Post25 Apr 2011, 21:35

I purchased what I thought was a Pulsar Executive. No photos of back of watch  When it arrived I was surprised to find that it held a 406 module. I was even more surprised to find it is a 24 hour module. I have scoured the forums looking for some information and came up empty. Anyone have some info on the module? How unique were these models?

The 406 module was an experiment by Time Computer, aimed at the European and U.S. military markets. For whatever reasons, it was a failure on both fronts. Only the Executive ever left the Lancaster facility with the 406 module. Most examples are in stainless steel, but specimens are known in 14K goldfilled and 14K solid gold. Production of this module was quite limited, probably not exceeding 5000 units (based on their occurrance compared to 401 and 402 modules).

Bruce,

Thank you for the information.

This confirms my suspicions about its potential for being somewhat unique since I was unable to find a shred of documentation on it. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean the case, band and module is. No batteries were in it when I received it and it started and set like it was new when I installed batteries. I will definitely consider myself lucky for having the opportunity to acquire it. I added a couple of photos to show the case and working module.

Very nice - one of the rare examples of 24h LED watches :-D.
But unfortunately the date is still wrong for Europe, should be DD-MM :-(

Still today US watch companies simply disregard the fact that most of the world uses 24h time and MM-DD - recent examples are the Phosphor e-ink watches.
One should think tha people who design watches are aware of this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_and_time_notation_by_country
The 24-hour clock enjoys broad everyday usage in most countries outside North America and the Philippines. When a time is written down or displayed, the 24-hour notation is used in these countries almost exclusively. Some regions, for example, most German, French and Romanian speakers use the 24-hour clock today even when speaking casually. In other English-speaking regions, particularly former colonies of the United Kingdom, the 12-hour clock and 24-hour are used interchangeably in formal communications.

Maybe we should ask what format does China use- 12hr or 24 hr? If they use the 24hr. format, then it's only a question of time.
Er... uh.. well, you know what I mean. ;-)
