My new Polara

Hi,

New to collecting watches. I find myself drawn to 70's era.

I just picked up this Polara. 14k case, 10k strap. Decent condition and I am enjoying wearing it!

Can anybody tell me does the watch use much power when the display is not being used? i.e. do they only eat the batteries when the time is displayed?

1. No, 2. Yes. Make sure you have proper batteries in it, 386 (SR44) is correct, silver oxide, don't use Alkalines of same size (LR44).

It wasn't working when it arrived but I had some batteries lying around which fitted but I think they were LR44's so I had better check that!

What will happen if I use them? Could I leave them in for a week or so?

Nice Watch .

You can keep the batteries in the watch for a short while if they are working for you. If they die, get them out. The problem with the Alkaline batteries is they have been known to fail in a most unpleasant manner (Leaking). Many good LED watch modules have gone to scrap from old leaking batteries. Look for Silver Oxide batteries as Rewolf suggested. Better performance and peace of mind to boot.

Silver oxide batteries have constant voltage during discharge, whereas voltage of Alkalines steadily decreases, that is, display gets dimmer.
The only disadvantage of silver oxide is the price...
