Holy whátits!!!

Post30 Jul 2011, 11:49

Just had a look for ´vintage seiko lcd´ on ebay and am blown away by the prices.
It appears to have doubled in a few months.

Almost casual 500 to well over 1000$ like it is nothing.

That makes modern Swiss high end digitals look almost chéap

The reason I looked is that a fellow wis who is more into luxury Swiss mechanical had bought two vintage LCD Seikos and shared this with me.
He had paid what Í though was  for in mý perception orinary late seventies stuff.
It is in fact about todays average if for a bit too rough looking watches, but in his perception it is beer money. He is used to not getting this much change out of 5K.
Could this be what is happening?

There's lots of discussion on the PCS forum about this problem.
Vintage Seiko prices going crazy.

Maybe it's because now these watches are old enough to have "nostalgia" status, and those who have grown up with them are now in their end-forties, made their fortune, midlife-crisis, fond memories, etc....
Or maybe, FINALLY, the analogue snobs have realized that they had been buying the same boring round watches over and over again in the last 40 years, and now they are looking for something different, not just a yellow dial instead of an orange one, but REALLY different ;-)

I am not going to buy a Seiko digital any time soon unless I sell some mechnicals.

Made a lowish offer on a decent 0634 for sale within the EC and that was accepted.

Have a look at the bidding on a working 0634 for spares:
