P2 Case wrench

Post14 Sep 2011, 21:40

Since these are becoming rare, does anybody have one of the more recent copies they can part with? If not, which general case opener would you recommend for the Pulsar P2 and P3's? L&K?

Most of the "crab" style with the wheel in the middle will have prongs/ears too big. The really nice ones with three point contact are even clumsier, especially if you don't unpin the band. My suggestion - buy one of these really cheap "sliding slot" openers, grind the prongs to fit, and you will love it. Lots of leverage, and you can see what you are doing, even if you are using the thumb from one hand to hold the wrench down against the case back.

He also sells a smaller, cheaper one. 8-)

* Note, grind the prongs a little at a time, you don't want to make them turn blue, definitely not red. You will have ruined the temper of the steel and they won't last long before bending. Odds are the tips are water-hardening steel, so if it does seem like their hardness is gone, heat up red hot and throw in some water. Hardness returned(it is possible to over-harden steel, making it brittle....that's probably not a big worry in this case).

Same deal. Assuming you can't get your hands on one of the ever convenient flat wrenches made for the Pulsars/Hamiltons/Omega. I thought about having a bunch of them made up at one time, but it just seemed like it would take several years to distribute even a 100 of them. My plan was to have them ground to finish size, not stamped like the Star(brand) flat wrenches. Unfortunately, due to the stamping process, one side of the flat one's "ears" is fairly rounded, the other is crisp and flat. So they always want to slip out on one side whilst being used....... :x
