Wanted -LED module

Post18 Nov 2011, 04:24

Im looking for an LED module marked: Sanyo - B8884, similar to the Pulsar type modules. This is for a Sears and Roebuck LED watch that has the similar buttons above and below the red crystal display which reads SOLID STATE in white applique. The module I have does not 'fire up' upon battery installation, pressing buttons, using magnet etc...any help would be appreciated, can I get a replacement module for this?? Thanks...the watch case and band look hardly used and the batteries I took out were surface white fuzzy but did not appear to affect anything beyond the contacts...cleaned contacts lightly but still no "life" after inserting batteries!

My life would never be the same without the soft warm glow of happily shining LEDs!

LEDMan,

I guess nobody has had the heart to break it to you that you'll need to find another P4 compatible module.

That means either robbing a module from a working P4 (not easy or inexpensive to find) or getting a modern rebuilt StrikesAndSpares module. StrikesAndSpares (Hanno) rebuilds modules using a modern microcontroller and the display and carrier from your original module. You're looking at at least 119 Euros:

If you wanted to find a cheap (about $50) solution, it's possible that you might be able to get a Sanyo module from a more common and less expensive design such as the CompuChron and hot-wire this up to the buttons with a couple of reed switches. It's kludgy, but it would at least preserve the correct display since these Sanyo displays are rather nice:

Ledman:
Obviously, keep an eye out for another Phaser exactly like yours. But be careful - most Phasers with setting buttons on the side do not use reed switches at ANY of the positions. Instead, they went with small brass rods soldered into the exact same places as the reeds, and buttons that go through the case and make physical contact, which gets onerous to convert over...the current path is different.

Some of the Phasers that are magnet set are Pulsar Men's Dress size, not P4. But the circuit is a fairly easy one to drop onto the bigger P4 hub.

If you find one of those with the two setting buttons on one side like Abe suggested, I would recommend you lift the circuit off THAT plastic hub and drop it onto your current hub. Otherwise you get int a mess of trying to move reed switches, make room for the reeds, etc. Even those with skills beyond your (current) can crash and burn on those. :x

Obviously, anyone who has one of those other modules, who knows how to do the work, doesn't want to give it up......since it can potentially revitalize a number of Pulsar models. Even if the display isn't dots.
