Sears S6 LED

Post16 Feb 2012, 14:51

I'm trying to identify a watch my father gave me in the mid 1970s. I think it's related to the Phasar, but I looked through every photo I could find and I can't find a match.

On the back, it says:
Base Metal Bezel
SEARS
S6
Stainless Steel Back
Water Resistant
Shock Resistant
K 29590

I believe the inside is labelled National Semiconductor and there is a hand drawn + in solder to indicate which battery slot is positive.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Welcome to the forum :-D
I think your description pretty much sums it up, Sears Roebuck LED watch, S6 I suspect is the date code for 1976 (fits in nicely with the LED life span) National Semi-Conductor module.

Does it work?

Yes, it displays the time without the : only when you press the button and when you hold the button it flashes the seconds. The crystal is a bit scratched. I'm considering having a jewler polish it. Is that a bad idea?

The crystal should polish up nicely.

It is not difficult to buff up a plastic crystal, just rub on a little 'polywatch' or 'Novus' and buff up, they sell small tubes of 'polywatch' on eBay for around $8, it would be much cheaper to do it yourself than to pay a jeweller.

I use Novus as I find it gives better results.
