P3 reed switch needed

Post10 Sep 2012, 22:25

Hi All,

I have a Pulsar P3 module here that works other than the reed switch for the date is broken. What's the latest wisdom on replacement switches? From what I've searched on the forum here the originals are the only option. Does anyone have one they can part with?

Cheers,
Shawn

Thank you. My hope is to have up a number of parts that others are hard pressed to find, then author some good-better instructions for installation and maybe even sell a little kit of tools and parts I've assembled. I can probably do a good bit better on the reed switch prices. I'm also going to sell flat Pulsar wrenchs like the Star one, but unlike those, mine will not be stamped they will be ground. Meaning that the ears on one side won't be rounded from the stamping process, which is a major defect that causes a lot of slips and scratches imo.

Great idea, Ed! I think a source for commonly needed parts is a good angle. Additionally, some compiled resources for fixing some of these things would be great. I'm constantly sifting through this forum trying to find answers to various issues, sometimes to find that someone figured out a better way many postings down the line. That said, it's often pretty good reading. :-D

Thanks Shawn,
Next is a battery cross-reference chart, with links to the items. Then I'll take pictures of common modules and watches and do the same. Essentially I'll incorporate many things a forum could have, but I'll have no forum ever again - forum owner involved in selling probably limits certain discussions[hindsight being 20/20] :-? . My wife thinks it crazy, but I really am inclined to assemble a basic repair tool kit of tools I personally use and think are great...a few sizes of my home-made battery terminal scrubbers, a few heat sink clamps, a very nice 20 watt soldering iron(USA or Europe voltage),solder, flux and a selection of quartz crystals for say $30-35 along with some directions/tips for a few common modules. And this great, super simple case wrench I have been using - 1 moving part. Since I am not repairing for the public anymore, why not help them do it themselves? 8-)

I have started on tutorials for reed switch and quartz crystal replacement on magnet set Pulsar/Hamilton/Omega products. I have also started regurgitating(and re-editing) some of the repair/maintenance articles from my www.thedigitalwatch.com project. I have to do some reed switch replacements this coming week, so that will be perfect time to take pictures and form my thoughts. 8-)

Sounds good Ed, how about making a short video clip to go along with the instructions, speaking from experience us amateurs can manage to mess things up even with the clearest of instructions

That is the plan (videos) after I get more text up. I tried to put in a translator plug-in(program) but that was a little ugly. I may try again, just for individual pages.

I'm actually gleaning questions from BOTH DWFs that are either not being answered OR the answers are becoming buried (imo) and using those as the impetus for the upcoming articles. I have teasers up for the next 2 upcoming articles. I also welcome articles from others. But no, I'm not going to do a forum. Ever.
