Help with Beltime vintage LED

Post09 Sep 2008, 17:08

Hello there,

I have a vintage Beltime LED watch. I know this watch isn't worth much, it isn't particularly of interest to a collector, but I would love to get this watch running as it has sentimental value for me.

I need to know (based on the pictures below):

Are all the parts present ?
What batteries do I need to source ?
A clue on how to put it together ?!!

If anyone has this model a photograph of the internals would be great !

Any clues gratefully received !

Hello Judda,

I would say that all the parts are present together with a few extra bits.

The module (insides) is made by Hughes Aircraft and should be fitted with two LR44 batteries which are freely and cheaply available on ebay.

The batteries fit inside the recessed holes which are marked at the bottom with a + (positive) and a - (negative) symbol.

Install the batteries by matching the symbols up.

The metal strip with the 2 hooked legs fits into the slots in the centre of the module and spans the two batteries to complete the electrical circuit.

To fit the module in the case line the 2 metal strips on the side of the module up with the command (push) buttons and gently push it into place, obviously when it is fitted correctly the digital display where the time shows will be straight when viewed from the front.

Finally press on the back casing to close up the watch and press the command button to see if the watch functions.

Thanks Mick !

I'll grab a couple of batteries and give it a go, I think you have confirmed that I have an extra "part" that doesn't belong here, I was puzzled trying to work out where that part went !

Thanks

Hello,

The batteries arrived today. fitted them with the following issues....

1) you have to keep a bit of pressure on the batteries to get the LED's to light up, closing the case is not an option.

2) When the LED's do actually light up all I get is SUN 1 which looks encouraging but pressing the buttons doesn't change the disply at all.

I was amazed when it actually lit up !

Should there be some springs under the batteries, or is that a faulty memory on my part (20 years ago !) ?

Hello Judda,
Not quite sure what the fault could be, I jumped in to get you started but my knowledge is well below that of others on the forum so I will let someone else jump in to assist you further - I wouldn't wish to tell you anything which is incorrect.
The fact that the watch lit up and displayed has to be a good sign and I don't think there should be springs under the batteries.
Good Luck
Regards Mick.

ok thanks for your input, it does seem hopeful that the LED's light up doesn't it.

Tried cleaning the contacts under the batteries, behaviour still the same.

Thanks

Well thought I'd post an update !

After getting the date to show but nothing more and no response from the buttons, I put the watch back in my drawer and there it has lain ever since...until last night :-D

Gave it a thorough clean with a switch cleaner, dropped in some new batteries and closed it up. It works ! :-D

The LEDs are a little dim, I wonder if that is natural fade over time or were they always that dim, but never the less the watch is working and being worn right now !

Thanks for all you help.

Hmmm but now I need one in gold too ..... ;-)
