I know that Hughes Aircraft made a couple of message modules one which had a message 'burnt' in, the other (which I have) can be programmed to display a message of up to 5 words up to a max of 5 letters per word, the case is stamped as made in the USA although having said that the module in the photo looks different to that of a typical Hughes module.

Could the customer specify what message was burnt into the Hughes module?

Nice module and I think it's a good find and quite rare, over the last few years I've only ever seen 2 offered for sale on ebay, one a while back and one quite recent.

I would say it's collectable - plenty of hits\bids on the one recently offered on ebay, including a couple of my own ;-)

Don't worry too much about the Fxxx in your post - it is what it is. The module is probably worth $150+, the watch is nothing special, so someone could put it in something else. One or more of the adult magazines of the '70s sold those.

Funny story: I bought a watch recently off ebay that one push of the command button displays " I love You" - aww. The funny part is(don't think the seller knew this_ - you hold the date button(at 7 oclock position) down for 3-4 seconds when the date is showing and it switches to "Let's Fxxx!" One button for your granny, both for your "squeeze".

Ed I work at a coal mine and digital watches, indeed any watches containing batteries or potential sources of ignition are considered contraband and are not permitted.

You will have to change your analogy to back to the Saw Mill or dare I say back to the rock band instead

What make of module is it?

With the Hughes modules could the customer specify what message got burnt in or where they just factory set?

Regards Mick.

That is interesting about the coal mine...but a band is very electrically charged - painfull static from microphones, quitars and amps all crackling away  I'm not doing much rocking these days - blues, jazz, ballady type of stuff. Classical stuff on the piano. Now you got me thinking about an old '60s song,(Lee Dorsey.."Working In a Coal Mine")
I been workin'in a coal mine
Goin' down down down
Workin' in a coal mine
Whoop! about to slip down

That clear module is probably a Nortec - looks identical to the one I have here. Hard to say if Hughes took special orders....maybe we should see what messages our members have or have seen in them.

I've got Hughes with:
Have a happy day.
USA 200 Years 1776 1976
Let's Fxxx(different module than the one you have).

?So what was the phrase you put into your programmable HUghes?

Hi Ed,

My Hughes message watch displays 'Smile Laugh Then Shoot Them' but it is about ready for a change - might go with the 'Bite My Shiny Metal Ass' that was previously suggested.

I love the Windert, I love the Longines Gemini and I love the Birks that you sold me. I nearly had a last minute change of heart with the Birks but now I have it I would not part with it.

I keep browsing the watches you currently have on offer, they all look excellent, I have my eye on one or two and I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will still be available when I have the money to buy.

The mining song you mention is vaguely familiar, I prefer 'Going Underground' by The Jam, the lyrics refer to the London Underground but the song still works for me.

Regards Mick.

Glad they worked out for your Mick(and the gifts items too 8-) ). The wife's been helping me during the summer, so we posted up about 45 more recently and have another 35+(going to have a page of mechanicals!) in the camera, hopefully to be posted this coming week.

"Bite My Shiny Metal Arse" might be a nice UK twist on Bender's name-phrase.

 Love it - That is what I'm going to change it to!!

Added bonus is Arse will use one more letter than Ass.... I feel like I am being robbed if I don't make best possible use off all the available letters.
